New England Brownfields and Landfills are Perfect for Solar!

by Scott Licamele | May 24, 2018

Brownfield Environmental Remediation Rhode Island

In New England states such as Connecticut, Massachussets and Rhode Island, there are many landfills and brownfield sites that are perfect locations for solar. You might be wondering, what is a brownfield site? It’s a parcel of land that was contaminated, usually long ago by industrial waste, and then cleaned up according to EPA requirements. Generally, brownfield and landfills cannot be used for anything once they are cleaned up or shut down because there are still contaminants which are hazardous. Generally, these types of properties cannot be built on.

There is, however a great use for such properties. Across the United States, solar development groups such as MSL, are building solar fields on landfills and brownfield sites. We generally need at least one acre of open land all the way up to 1,000 acres, close to an electric power line or electric substation. We generally lease properties for 20 years. If you own a landfill or brownfield property in Connecticut, Rhode Island or Massachusetts and would like to either sell or lease your property, please contact 203-842-2153 Ext 277 to find out if your property will work. It’s never been a better time to generate lease income or sell your brownfield or landfill site for solar lease income.

400 meagawatts is about 2,500 acres of solar panels, which is quite a bit of land. That said, if you own land in Rhode Island and are looking to lease or sell for solar, please contact us to receive a lease offer. Leases are generally for 20 years. We generally need 5-7 acres for a typical project, but we also look at smaller parcels as well, down to two acres. The best type of land is an open field with no wetlands. Ideally, we look for land close to a power line on the road.
